· Snoring can be an early sign of more serious conditions such as sleep apnoea.
· Sleep apnoea is a common problem affecting 15 to 20 percent of adults who experience intermittent pauses in breathing.
· Untreated sleep apnoea may cause daytime sleepiness, high blood pressure, stroke, poor management of diabetes, heart failure, heart rhythm irregularities.
To determine if the snoring is a sign of sleep apnea, an overnight study in a sleep center is necessary. This type of supervised testing can evaluate for sleep apnea as well as other sleep related problems.
